Originally from Toronto, Andy Swan came into our consciousness back in 1998 as THE FLING, releasing lo-fi recordings made on a four track in his parents’ house. Before long, Andy was a prolific song-making machine, recording under the name DETECTIVE KALITA, later known as THE MICHAEL PARKS.
In more recent years, the house of THE MICHAEL PARKS could not contain all of his songs, and solo records began to emerge. 2005 saw the release of A.M. at the H.O.M., a late-night session recorded during a Michael Parks recording weekend, captured while the engineer was asleep.
2007 saw Andy come to the capital city to record Ottawa, a Willie Nelsonish take on his songs, complete with full country fixings in John Higney on steel, Keith Snider on fiddle, Rolf Klausener (The Acorn) on bass, and Jon Bartlett (Rhume / Greenfield Main) on drums. The album was hailed across the country as a classic, by those who took it seriously.
Swan lived in rural PEI more recently, but has now settled in Ottawa, where he continues to record and release free albums under his Binary Series.
