Kelp signs Adam & the Amethysts! /

August 15, 2011

Kelp is pleased to announce the signing of Montreal band ADAM & THE AMETHYSTS! Their second album, entitled Flickering Flashlight, will be out on Kelp October 4th on 180g LP, as well as CD and digital.

Their debut, Amethyst Amulet, received endless praise from critics. It was thematically unified as a loving lo-fi homage to the people, stories, and natural majesty of Adam’s hometown. On Flickering Flashlight, the overarching theme is less a longing for a long lost and mythologized past, but more a reverence for the present, and Adam’s situated-ness in that present in relation to the past and future.

Adam played nearly all of the instruments himself, but Rebecca Lessard is prominently featured on cello and vocal harmonies. Adam also received help from Montreal music scene friends, Nathan Ward and Jordan Robson Cramer, drummers from Miracle Fortress and Sunset Rubdown, respectively.

Rebecca, Jordan, and Scott Johnson Gailey (who also contributed to the new album) make up the most recent—and most solid to date—live lineup of Adam & The Amethysts.
