MEGAPHONO is nigh

I’m not sure why, but we decided to launch a music showcase festival in Ottawa in the middle of winter in the middle of the week. But we’re feeling good about it.

MEGAPHONO kicks off Tuesday Feb 3 at 12:00pm with Mayor Jim Watson at City Hall Council Chambers. Our esteemed Mayor will perform a ribbon cutting ceremony (cutting a spool of 2″ audio tape!) to officially launch the first ever MEGAPHONO music showcase festival! This event is free open to the public and a panel discussion on our nearly-completed paper Connecting Ottawa Music will follow, moderated by Alan Neal (CBC).

MEGAPHONO continues through Thursday, jam-packed with 41 artists performing at venues around the Ottawa area, including the Diefenbunker, House of Targ, St. Alban’s Church, and the Record Centre, to name but a few. Performers include local and regional artists favourites like Evening Hymns, Flight Distance, Last Ex, FLO, Boyhood, Steve Adamyk Band, U.S. Girls, Yao, HILOTRONS, Jeremy Fisher, Buck n’ Nice, The PepTides, Amanda Rheaume and more. The daytimes will be filled with panels and networking meetings; artists, music industry folks, students and the curious are welcome to participate, and meet our music industry visitors from LA, NYC, Toronto and Montreal.

A full schedule lives here, and you can buy event passes, or tickets to individual shows. Here’s some light reading. Also don’t miss Lesley’s amazing festival trailer video.

Follow the Twitter and Instagram for fun and prize surprises. Let’s have some fun.
